From April to May 2025, we carried out a large-scale intergenerational sustainability project in collaboration with Victoria School, involving the entire Secondary Two cohort of 350 students. As part of this initiative, students worked alongside seniors from THKMC Active Ageing Centres to repurpose pre-loved school uniforms into useful new items. Through a series of upcycling workshops facilitated by The Circular Classroom (TCC), students volunteered their time to learn basic sewing skills, assist seniors, and co-create meaningful products such as tote bags, pouches, and other handmade items. This project was designed not only to reduce textile waste, but also to encourage connections across generations. Many of the seniors had experience with sewing but had not had opportunities to continue this hobby in recent years. Working with students gave them a renewed sense of purpose and joy. For students, it was a chance to learn practical skills, listen to life stories, and understand sustainability in a more personal way. Despite differences in age and language, creativity became a shared language. Over time, the sessions became more than just workshops — they became moments of mutual respect, learning, and relationship building. This project is part of our ongoing efforts to build a culture of sustainability and care. We are grateful to Victoria School for their hardwork, care and commitment!
