Overview
At The Circular Classroom, we empower students and lifelong learners to become active changemakers in Singapore’s journey towards sustainability. Through our three interconnected programmes - 1 - Understanding, 2 - Applying, and 3 - Leading - we guide participants from awareness to action as they explore the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SG Green Plan and Singapore’s efforts in becoming a zero-waste nation. Our hands-on approach complements classroom learning with real-world applications. From reusing and repurposing school uniforms to adopting greener habits, we cultivate eco-conscious citizens who think critically, act responsibly, and inspire others. This is just the beginning: we hope to spark a lifelong passion for sustainability.
1 - UNDERSTANDING: Awareness Creation
Thematic Talks, Information Booths and Exhibitions
School uniforms are an everyday item with a significant environmental footprint. When no longer needed, many are discarded instead of being reused or repurposed, and contribute to textile waste - one of Singapore's least recycled waste streams. Through thematic talks, information booths and interactive exhibits, we take school uniforms as a relatable example to promote sustainable consumption and the value of keeping resources in use for longer. Participants explore practical ways to reduce waste and make more sustainable choices, while learning about the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and Singapore's journey towards becoming a zero-waste nation.
2 - APPLYING: Experiential Learning
Sustainability Workshops
Our hands-on sustainability workshops offer learners across all age groups and sectors - from Primary Schools to Higher Education Institutions and Community Organisations - an opportunity for applied and experiential learning. Participants explore how to repurpose pre-loved school uniforms into meaningful and unique items such as pouches, pencil cases, bags, or art pieces. They will deepen their understanding of sustainability and circularity, while developing more conscious consumption habits. At the same time, the workshops foster creativity, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment which make them ideal to conduct as co-curricular activities, bonding sessions or special events (e.g. Earth Day at school, PSG appreciation events). They can be single workshops or a series of workshops forming a longer-term programme. Every workshop is customised in terms of content and learning outcomes to suit the specific needs of the school or organisation.
3 - LEADING: Eco-Stewardship in Community
Community Engagement Programmes
These programmes empower participants to move beyond learning in the classroom and take an active role in creating positive change within the community. These programmes – usually conducted over a period of 1-3 months – provide opportunities to build leadership, communication and teamwork skills while working on real-world sustainability challenges to reduce textile waste. Participants learn to appreciate different perspectives, strengthen social connections and contribute to a shared purpose. Whether through Values-in-Action (ViA) projects, intergenerational repurposing programmes for students and seniors, community workshops or sustainability campaigns, participants are encouraged to take ownership, lead by example and inspire others. By combining environmental action with community engagement, we nurture confident and compassionate eco-stewards who are equipped to make a meaningful difference in their schools, communities and beyond. From single-session activities to longer-term engagement programmes, all initiatives are adapted to the age, interests, learning objectives and community context of the participants.
