Changkat Primary School - Parent Support Group (PIE Club) Appreciation Day

We look forward to be working with Changkat Primary School for its upcoming PIE Club Appreciation Day, celebrating the parents who contribute their time, energy and ideas to the school community. Parent Support Groups play an important role in Singapore’s school communities. The Ministry of Education (MOE) recognises parents as important partners in education and highlights PSGs as a way for parents to contribute to school life and work alongside schools to support their children’s educational experience. For The Circular Classroom, working with PSGs is particularly meaningful. Parents can be powerful partners in sustainability -bringing ideas into the school community, supporting activities and helping sustainable habits travel from school into the home. We look forward to creating, connecting and celebrating the Changkat Primary School parent community together!

Applied Learning Programme on Textiles

Great to be back at Changkat Primary School and support the new Primary 6 Applied Learning Programme (ALP), which brought together sustainability, design thinking, coding, and textile upcycling in an authentic learning experience for the entire Primary 6 cohort. Guided by the Ministry of Education’s vision for Applied Learning Programmes, students explored how knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom can be applied to real-world challenges and industries. As part of the programme’s Empathise stage, The Circular Classroom introduced students to the environmental challenges of textile waste and the opportunities created through the circular economy. Across five classes, students discussed sustainability matters with our team, explored the lifecycle of school uniforms, and learnt about the barriers and opportunities involved in promoting textile upcycling within the community. Through these conversations, students developed a deeper understanding of how sustainability challenges affect people and the environment. In collaboration with BERNINA, students will later explore how coding can be used to programme sewing machines to create customised motifs and designs, demonstrating how technology and creativity can support sustainable innovation. The projects will showcase how digital skills can be combined with environmental stewardship to create meaningful solutions. Students will sell their created products during the end of the year social enterprise day. Through this programme, Changkat Primary School empowered young learners to become future-ready changemakers who understand that innovation, coding, and sustainability can work hand in hand to create positive impact.
