We were thrilled to contribute to the Sustainability Camp for Educators series, organised by Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design. On 26 June 2025, The Circular Classroom organised a hands-on workshop for 99 teachers and staff members of Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School (KCPSS). Set against a sustainability theme, this unique event blended creativity, technology, and textile reuse to initiate conversations—and actions—around circularity in education. The workshop invited KCPSS teachers to work in teams using their pre-loved KCPSS uniforms as their primary material. Strips of dark blue and white fabric—harvested from old school uniforms—were meticulously cut and intricately woven together to form a large-scale, interactive artwork: a functional QR code that leads to the KCPSS school website. This activity aimed to create a mindset shift—one that blends tradition with innovation, and waste with possibility. Around the border of the framed QR code, teachers hand-sewed their initials onto small squares of uniform fabric. The workshop was preceded by a thematic introduction, where we shared: The global and local impact of textile waste The externalities behind fast fashion and their microplastics Why Singapore must rethink school uniform disposal How educators play a vital role in shaping sustainable mindsets The hands-on experience of transforming preloved uniforms into a tech-textile artwork helped them reframe waste as a resource—and how educators could carry this perspective into their classrooms.
