ReGENerate - Sustainability Project @Anderson Serangoon Junior College April to May 2025

Type:

Values in Action (ViA) Programme

Dates:

01 Apr 2025 - 31 May 2025

Participating Schools:

Anderson Junior College

Our first collaboration with Anderson Serangoon Junior College: a school and neighbourhood project that engaged 60 JC1 students and senior members from the community. As we celebrate SG60 together, we began creating owl plushies made of pre-loved ASJC uniforms with a goal number of 700 plushies. Step 1: following the train-the-trainers approach, we equipped the 60 JC1 students with sustainability skills and trained them on hand and machine sewing skills and repurposing. Step 2: together with the school, we organised an intergenerational repurposing session in a nearby community centre for seniors. Step 3: the students who participated in the workshop will go on to train their peers in school. Students and elderly participants from Lions Befrienders and THK Active Ageing worked together on the owls, exchanging stories and learning from one another. The shared moments fostered a meaningful connection, enriching the experience for everyone involved. The final outcome - a small population of textile owls that reminds us of the importance of circularity and environmental protection. This project was partially co-funded under the SG Eco Grant.
