Take a look at this vibrant tapestry, woven from pre-loved school uniforms, boldly proclaiming "Go Green PSGs"! This is not just another artwork. It is a powerful visual symbol of Singapore's unwavering commitment to sustainability and the crucial role of education in shaping a greener tomorrow. On 16 May 2025, the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment launched the one month-long Go Green SG initiative at Changkat Primary School. The Go Green SG movement calls upon citizens, organisations, and communities to unite in collective action towards sustainability and brings together diverse stakeholders from education institutions, businesses, NGOs and government agencies. On this occasion and during the special year of SG60, we supported Changkat Primary and its CKPS Parent Support Group on a very unique project: With the support of the PSG Zonal Leaders, the CKPS PSG invited all its peers - Parent Support Groups from the over 336 schools across Singapore - to be part of a nationwide community collaboration and create a one-of-a-kind PSG artwork made entirely of pre-loved school uniforms. 97 PSGs participated, each contributing with a set of pre-loved school uniforms and PE attire. The artwork "Go Green PSGs" represents three messages: 1) PSGS are a united front in championing sustainable practices. 2) PSGs promote circularity in action and sustainable consumption practices by reducing textile waste 3) Education is a catalyst and plays a pivotal role in fostering environmental stewardship and nation-building. On 29 April and 8 May, the CKPS PSG and The Circular Classroom organised two fun and hands-on workshops at Changkat Primary School to create the artwork. Over 80 PSG leaders engaged in sustainability-themed games and collaborated on cutting, sewing, and assembling the materials, completed just in time for the launch of Go Green SG 2025. As part of this creative upcycling effort, the pre-loved PE uniforms were also repurposed into handcrafted fabric flowers to form the “SG60” logo —a beautiful tribute to Singapore’s upcoming 60th birthday. This inspiring project showed the power of community, creativity, and commitment to building a zero-waste future. Kudos to CKPS, the CKPS PSG and all the PSG leaders and volunteers for showing how sustainability starts at home, in schools, and through collective action.
