Sustainability and art are closely connected: both invite reflection, aim to raise awareness, and drive change. Through art, students can visually explain complex sustainable development concepts, foster a deeper understanding of sustainable practices, and turn their ideas into powerful calls for action. In July and August 2023, Changkat Primary School (CKPS), the CKPS Partners in Education (PIE Club) and The Circular Classroom collaborated on a school-wide Art Competition. Under the topic “Imagine your Green School”, the competition highlighted the role of schools in promoting sustainability, shaping a green mindset, and instilling sustainable practices in students. Over 90 students across all levels participated enthusiastically in the competition and shared their vision of a school environment that cultivates a sense of responsibility towards the planet. The artworks – paintings, collages, sculptures and installations – showed remarkable creativity and demonstrated the students’ understanding of sustainable practices, from waste reduction and recycling, renewable energy, and ecological balance.
