Every meaningful collaboration starts somewhere! For The Circular Classroom, our first workshops at THK Active Ageing Centres Cassia and Kaki Bukit marked the beginning of our partnership with Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities. Little did we know that these initial sessions would grow into many more workshops, creative projects and wonderful friendships. Our first gatherings were all about getting to know one another. We introduced The Circular Classroom, shared our mission to give pre-loved school uniforms a second life, and, most importantly, spent time learning about our senior friends, their experiences and interests. Of course, we also wanted to create something together! We started with a simple and practical project: a little tissue pouch made from pre-loved school uniforms. What surprised us was just how skilled our seniors were. Many were already familiar with sewing, measuring and handling fabrics. Hardly any training was needed! Their confidence, precision and practical knowledge were impressive, and it quickly became clear that we had as much to learn from them as they had from us. Looking back, these first sessions laid the foundation for something much bigger than crafting. They opened the door to regular gatherings, shared learning and opportunities for seniors to contribute their skills to schools and the wider community. What began with a simple tissue pouch has grown into a wonderful journey of creativity, sustainability and friendship across generations.
