What happens when seniors lend their skills and experience to support the next generation? At The Circular Classroom, we see how meaningful these connections can be through our collaboration with Victoria School and our senior friends at THK Active Ageing Centres. As part of our ReGENerate – Connecting Generations Through Sustainability initiative, the seniors have been helping to transform pre-loved Victoria School uniforms into pencil cases for the students. With over 1,200 fabric pieces needed to create the outer bodies and inner linings of the pencil cases, there was plenty of work to be done! Our seniors enthusiastically took on the challenge, carefully measuring, cutting and sewing the materials to prepare them for production. What impressed us most was the remarkable precision and patience with which they worked. Even with ageing hands, their attention to detail and determination were truly admirable. Every piece was handled with care, knowing that it would eventually become part of something useful for a student. But beyond the crafting itself, what made these sessions particularly heartwarming was seeing how happy and proud the seniors were to contribute to the students' school journey. Through this collaboration, pre-loved uniforms are given a second life, while seniors remain actively engaged, sharing their skills and making a valuable contribution to the younger generation. This is what ReGENerate is all about: bringing generations together through sustainability, creativity and a shared sense of purpose.
